Westair PPL(A) Training – Diamond DA40 Aircraft
The Westair EASA PPL(A) course (SEP) teaches you to fly in the Diamond DA40 aircraft.
The course is taught in the Diamond DA40 four seat single engine aircraft. The DA40 is a modern composite aircraft powered by the Diamond AE300 jet fuel piston engine.
It has full glass cockpit using latest generation Garmin G1000 NXi twin screen technology. The aircraft is highly automated unlike other older single engine aircraft, and there is no need to manage mixtures and propeller controls : this is a single lever control system and along with the glass cockpit it positions students well for transition towards commercial and light jet aircraft as well as making cross country flights more relaxed.
The DA40 has a top speed of 154kts (TAS) and a 60% power cruise speed of 125kts (TAS) at 14,000’. The aircraft is not pressurised and it has a service ceiling of 16,400’
The principal course is the standard EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) Private Pilot Licence (PPL) which consists of a minimum of 45 hours flying.
Lessons usually last between 40 minutes and an hour. If you train full time, the course can be completed between 2 or 3 months, but many people spread the course over 12 to 18 months; taking lessons roughly once a week.Topics of the Private Pilots Licence (PPL) course include:
- Basic Handling
