Commercial Pilot Licence

Commercial Pilot training at Blackpool

The Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) is the first official flight training course on the road to becoming a professional pilot. The primary aim of the course is ensure that you can fly an aircraft to professional and commercial standards. You will also be flying a faster aircraft with more complex systems.

Flight Instructor Rating

Flight instructor rating

The Flight Instructor Rating teaches you how to teach the PPL(A) syllabus to new pilots.
The course will go through the PPL syllabus with the FI Instructor explaining how to teach each lesson. You will then practice at teaching the syllabus to the FI Instructor acting as a dummy student, making various mistakes.

Instrument Ratings

Instrument rating training at Blackpool

The Instrument Rating (IR) is largest aspect of your commercial flight training. You will learn how to operate an aircraft almost exclusively by reference to the instruments. It’s the longest and certainly the most challenging course.

ATPL Assistance

ATPL preparation at Blackpool Airport

The ATPL theoretical course involves a lot of aircraft systems and concepts, such as pressurisation systems or Engine Failure Recognition Speed (V1), which aren’t particularly relevant to light aircraft.

The ATPL Assistance course is designed to give a practical application to some of these systems.

Multi Engine Piston

Multi Engine Rating training at Blackpool Airport

The Multi Engine Piston rating teaches you how to fly an aircraft with two engines. The majority of the course is spent learning how to handle the aircraft safely with one only one engine operating; dealing with the aircraft in what is known as asymmetric.

What our customers say...

“Westair were a great choice for my modular CPL course. Working full time, they had excellent availability at the weekends which was important for me. Provided one booked sufficiently far in advance, there was never any issue getting training slots. Towards the end as I got closer to my skills test date, they were extremely flexible in arranging extra brush up sessions/making the aircraft available etc. They could not do enough..."
