CPL(A)

The Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) raises the proficiency of your flying to a professional standard and introduces you to more complex aircraft.

Course Details

  • 15 hours total flight time including:

  • 10 hours in a single engine aircraft

  • At least 5 hours in a complex single or multi-engine aircraft

  • CPL Skills Test

An additional 10 hours of instrument flight training in a single engine aircraft is required if the candidate does not hold Basic Instrument Flight Certificate (BIFM).

Instrument Rating

The Instrument Rating (IR) is single most largest aspect of your commercial flight training. You will learn how to operate an aircraft almost exclusively by reference to the instruments. It’s the longest and certainly the most challenging course.

Course Details


Single Engine IR

  • 40 hours of instrument flight training in a single engine aircraft


Multi Engine IR

  • 30 hours of instrument flight training in a single engine aircraft

  • 15 hours of instrument flight training in a multi engine aircraft

An additional 10 hours of instrument flight training in a single engine aircraft is required if the candidate does not hold Basic Instrument Flight Certificate (BIFM).

Competency Based IR

An abbreviated Instrument Rating for pilots with previous experience.

Course Details

  • A pre-entry assessment is used to determine the individual’s training needs.

  • At least 10 hours of instrument flight time under instruction in an aeroplane.

  • The SE CB-IR course comprises of at least 40 hours instrument time under instruction (including prior instruction credited)

  • The ME CB-IR course comprises of at least 45 hours instrument time under instruction (including prior instruction credited)

Structured Hour Building

A structured way to complete your Commercial Hour Building and get a strong footing for your future training.

Course Details

  • 90 hours of aircraft hire including:

  • 75 hours of solo hire

  • 15 hours of dual instruction

  • A structured syllabus to gain the most experience with regular progress checks

  • Pastoral assistance throughout the Hour Building phase

Glass Conversion

An introductory course on the Garmin G1000 Avionics and additional systems of our Diamond aircraft.

Course Details

  • 3 hours of dual training in our Garmin G1000 simulator

  • 5 hours of dual training in the Diamond DA40

  • 5 hours of solo use of our Garmin G1000 simulator

IR(R)

An introductory course on how to fly an aircraft in less than ideal weather.

Course Details

  • 15 hours of dual instrument training including:

  • At least 10 hours flown by sole reference to instruments

  • 1 multiple choice written exam

  • IR(R) Skills test

Fast Track

PPL(A)

Whether you want to fly for recreation or start the journey for a career in aviation, the PPL is where to start.

Course Details

  • 45 hours total flight time including:

  • 20 hours dual flight time

  • 10 hours solo flight time

  • 5 hours solo navigation

  • 9 theoretical exams & practical radiotelephony test

  • Practical Flight test

MEP

Located at Blackpool Airport, Westair is less than 1 hour from Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds with excellent road and rail links making it the perfect choice for Student Pilots looking for a Multi Engine Piston rating course.

Course Details

  • The MEP course is run full time starting on a Monday

  • 6 hours of dual airbourne instruction in a Diamond DA62

  • 7 hours of ground instruction is included 

  • 1 written exam paper

  • Flight test with an examiner (can be combined with CPL flight test)

FI(R)

  • 30 hours total flight time

  • 125 ground tuition

  • Up to 5 hours of the course may be completed with another student as a dummy candidate

LAPL

The Light Aircraft Pilot Licence (LAPL) is the perfect licence for people looking to fly recreationally.

  • 30 hours total flight time including:

  • 15 hours dual flight time

  • 6 hours solo flight time

Night Rating

Build upon your piloting skills and adapt them for use during the hours of darkness whilst experiencing the transformation of the landscape and breath-taking views of the Blackpool lights at night.

Course Details

  • 5 hours total flight time including:

  • 3 hours of dual flight time

  • 1 hour solo flight time

  • 1 hour of navigation

  • 5 solo take-offs and 5 solo landings

  • The Night rating may be conducted as an additional part of the PPL course.
